Throwback Thursday (11-30-17)

Hi everybody,

This week's Throwback Thursday moment is from a few years back when I was serving some wine at LC's Saloon.  This was before the saloon had its big renovation a couple years ago but I still use these great wine glasses.

Chase Utley Photo of the Week (11-29-17)

Hi everybody,

This week's photo is a shot of Chase in the dugout in Tampa Bay watching the action during the 2008 World Series.  I wonder if this shot was taken after Chase hit a home run during Game 1.

2017 Little Chase Season Highlights (11-24-17)

Hi everybody,

This week's season "highlight" is from a few weeks ago during my trip to London.  After learning that I'm related to the British Royal Family, my friends and I paid a visit to the Tower of London.  While wandering about this impressive historical location, we came to a room with a throne.  Seeing that I'm soon going to be crowned as King LC....I decided to give the throne a test run while no one was looking.  It was a nice fit.  I'm going to need to get a cool throne at my place when I officially become King LC.

This week's Throwback Thursday moment is from Thanksgiving a couple years ago when I was trying to make the turkey dinner.  I had some problems but luckily my friends were around to give me a helping hand.

Former Phillies Pitcher Roy Halladay Has Passed Away

Hi everybody,

I apologize for not writing about this sooner but I have been too bummed out to do it until now.  Former Phils starting pitcher Roy Halladay passed away in an airplane accident last week (November 7th).  Doc pitched for the Phillies from 2010-2013 and threw two no-hitters (including a perfect game) during the 2010 season.  Halladay previously pitched for the Toronto Blue Jays.

Roy Halladay 10 Greatest Baseball Moments

A memorial service was held for Doc in Clearwater, Florida on Tuesday (November 14th) and many former teammates from both the Phillies and Blue Jays attended to pay their respects.  Chase Utley, Cole Hamels and Charlie Manuel spoke during the service to reflect on Doc's life and his impact on them.  Here are some links where you can hear their comments.

Teammates Speak at Roy Halladay Memorial

Doc is survived by his wife Brandy and  his two sons.  The Halladay family released the following statement shortly after his tragic passing:

Our family is heartbroken in confirming that Roy passed away in a plane crash Tuesday afternoon. While many will remember him for his success as a major league pitcher, we remember him as an amazing father, loving husband and loyal friend.
Roy had many accomplishments in his professional career, the memories of which we will cherish forever. He described each achievement as a team effort rather than an individual accomplishment, a true testament to his character and love for his teammates.
Roy grew up with a passion for planes and always had the goal of becoming a pilot. Since retiring from baseball, he has been actively studying, accumulating the required flight hours and obtaining multiple pilot certifications and licenses. Just as he was known for his work ethic in baseball, he was also widely respected by those who knew him in the aviation community for his hard work, attention to detail and dedication to safety while flying. He treated his passion for aviation with the same joy and enthusiasm as he did his love for baseball.
That passion was also expressed through his tireless dedication to helping his own children and so many others learn to love and respect the game of baseball. He was an amazing coach for many youth teams, always showing patience and encouragement while reminding each child that they all had a role to play, a way to contribute and add value to their team. His love for the game had no boundaries as we often saw him instructing and encouraging the players on opposing teams. Roy was selfless in every aspect of his life.
While we mourn the loss of the core of our family, we choose to celebrate him and remember the man we knew privately on and off the field. We hope that he serves as an example of professionalism, integrity and hard work for all who knew him. For us, we will forever remember his unconditional love, humility and the sacrifices he made to provide for the family that meant the world to him.
On behalf of our family we thank you for respecting our privacy during this time of overwhelming grief. We also ask that you respect the privacy of our extended family as well as the families and children who Roy has coached, taught or worked with. We are so fortunate and thankful for the outpouring of love and support we've received from across the world. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at 4:00 p.m. at Spectrum Field in Clearwater, Florida. The service will be open to the public.
The Halladay Family

Doc was one of my favorite Phillies after Chase and I have missed seeing him pitch since his retirement.  I had always hoped that he would one day be a coach in the Phillies organization.  I hope the Phils name him to the Wall of Fame this year.  Rest in Peace, Doc!

Former Phils Hitting Coach Matt Stairs Named Hitting Coach For Padres

Hi everybody,

Former Phillies hitting coach Matt Stairs was recently named the new hitting coach for the San Diego Padres.  Stairs had been the Phils hitting coach for the 2017 season after being a member of the announcing crew.  Stairs had previously play for the Phils when they became World F'n Champs in 2008.  During that epic run in 2008, Stairs hit a monster home run against the Los Angeles Dodgers during the NL Championship series.  Good luck in San Diego, Mr. Stairs!

What a hit....

Gabe Kapler Named New Phillies Manager

Hi everybody,

Sorry that I didn't write this sooner but I was away in London when the Phils announced on October 30th that former major league ballplayer Gabe Kapler was named as the new manager.  Kapler has worked the last three seasons as the director of player development for the Los Angeles Dodgers.  Kapler replaces Pete Mackanin to become the 54th manager in the history of the Phillies organization.  I wish Kapler luck as the new Phils skipper.

Throwback Thursday (11-16-17)

Hi everybody,

This week's Throwback Thursday moment is from earlier this year when I got my second Phillie Phanatic Star Wars bobblehead.  The Phillies have been giving these out the last couple seasons on Star Wars night and I wonder what the Star Wars Phanatic bobblehead will be next season.

2017 Little Chase Season Highlights (11-10-17)

Hi everybody,

This week's season "highlight" is from a few weeks ago when I decided to dress up as the Phillie Phanatic for Halloween.  Although I was in London for vacay, this nifty outfit got me a lot of candy when I did a little "pre-Halloween" trick-or-treating before I left.  I can't hold a candle to the real Phanatic but it was an honor to pretend to be him for a couple hours.

Throwback Thursday (11-2-17)

Hi everybody,

This week's Throwback Thursday moment is another couple pictures from last Halloween when I dressed up as Little Thor.  In these shots, my pal Little Sherlock (dressed as Little Doctor Strange) and I are battling a giant spider skeleton.  After a hard fought battle, the heroes defeated the spider and went off to get lunch...I mean fight crime elsewhere.

Chase Utley Photo of the Week (11-1-17)

Hi everybody,

Even though I am on vacation, I always like to do a Chase Utley Photo of the Week.  This week's photo is a shot that I like to call Smilin' Chase.  I wonder what kind of good time Chase was having to elicit a grin like that.  The world may never know.
