Phils to Face Chase Utley For the First Time This Season

Hi everybody,

The Phils head to Los Angeles to start a weekend series against the Dodgers and my hero Chase Utley.  Even after all this time...I am still not used to seeing Chase in a Dodgers uniform.  As always, I hope Chase does well but the Phillies still get the win.

I wonder if Murph will interview Chase again...

Throwback Thursday (4-27-17)

Hi everybody,

This week's Throwback Thursday moment is from my trip to Gettysburg earlier this month.  This shot was taken when my friends and I visited General Lee's Headquarters.  This is the location where the old Quality Inn used to be before the land was restored to its 1863 appearance and given to the Gettysburg Battlefield Park.  Although I do miss the old hotel, the land look really nice historically restored.

Aaron Nola Placed on the DL

Hi everybody,

Phillies starting pitcher Aaron Nola was placed on the 10-day DL (Disabled List) with a lower back strain.  The move was retroactive to April 21st so it is possible that Nola may only miss one start because the injury is not thought to be serious.  Phils minor league pitcher Nick Pivetta is expected to take Nola's place in the rotation for at least one game.

Chase Utley Photo of the Week (4-26-17)

Hi everybody,

This week's gif is a bit goofy with a huge slice of pepperoni pizza floating near Chase.  I'm guessing that Chase is just talking about his love for pizza rather than some mutant slice of pie dancing near him.

Now I'm hungry for pizza...

Happy Birthday Phillie Phanatic

Hi everybody,

Just wanted to wish the Phillie Phanatic a Happy 39th Birthday and I hope you are enjoying you big day today down at the ballpark.  It is a little weird how the date of your birthday changes every year yet is always falls on a Sunday.  Since I started covering your birthday on my blog, the dates of your big day have been:

2013 = April 21st
2014 = May 18th
2015 = April 26th
2016 = April 17th
2017 = April 23rd

Oh well, I guess it's just a strange mystery.  Happy Birthday Phanatic and thanks again for making me laugh during every Phillies home game!!!

Howie Kendrick Placed on the DL

Hi everybody,

Phillies starting left fielder Howie Kendrick was placed on the 10-day DL (Disabled List) with a right abdominal strain on Tuesday (April 18th).  Kendrick hasn't played since Saturday (April 15th) against the Washington Nationals when he injured himself throwing.  If he is healthy, he can return from the DL on April 26th.

The Phils have brought up relief pitch Mark Leiter Jr. from the minors to replace him on the roster.  Daniel Nava and Aaron Altherr are expected to split time in left field until Kendrick returns.

Clay Buchholz Likely Done For The Season

Hi everybody,

Just wanted to let you know that Phillies starting pitcher Clay Buchholz is likely done for the season after suffering an injury to his throwing arm.  He sustained the injury during Tuesday night's (April 11th) game against the New York Mets.  An MRI taken yesterday revealed a partial tear of the right flexor pronator mass.  This muscle connects the forearm to the elbow.

It is not known yet who will replace Buchholz in the rotation.
