Utley Foundation Unveils Second Annual "Be Kind to Animals" Mural

Hi everybody,

On Thursday, Chase and Jen Utley dedicated the "Be Kind to Animals" mural at the McVeigh Recreation Center in Philadelphia.  This is the second year that a mural was dedicated by the Utley's.  Chase and Jen created the Utley Foundation to help bring awareness to animal cruelty and promote kindness to animals.  To learn more please visit their website:

Phils Eliminated From Post-Season Play

Hi everybody,

After being eliminated from winning their sixth-straight NL East Title a couple of weeks ago (http://littlechase.blogspot.com/2012/09/nl-east-title.html) the Phils still had a chance to make the playoffs as the 2nd Wildcard team. Unfortunately that slim chance at a playoff berth ended last night.  So the streak of five straight playoff appearances is over.

Ryan Howard Hits 300th Career Home Run

Raul Valdes Likely Done For Season

Left-handed relief pitcher Raul Valdes has been placed on the DL and will have arthroscopic surgery on the meniscus in his right knee.  The surgery will probably end his season.  Valdes pitched well in the bullpen and I wish him a speedy recovery.

Juan Pierre Gets 588th Career Stolen Base

Hi everybody,

Just wanted to congratulate Juan Pierre on his 588 career stolen bases.  There are only 18 players in MLB history who have more than him and number 18 (Dummy Hoy) has only six more stolen bases.  Maybe Pierre can catch him by the end of the season.

Brian Schneider Likely Done For The Season

Brian Schneider has been on the DL for the last few weeks but word has come out that he is unlikely to return this season.  This is probably Schneider's last season as a Phillie with the emergence of Erik Kratz as a legitimate backup catcher to Carlos Ruiz. Get well and good luck!!

Placido Polanco Done For Season

Placido Polanco was placed on the DL yesterday as is done for the season with a recurring back injury. This will probably be Polanco's last year as a Phillie  I want to wish Polanco well and offer a belated congrats for getting his 2,000th hit earlier this season.  I should have done a post about it but for some reason I did not.  Good luck and get well Polly!!!

Carlos Ruiz was activated from the DL before last night's game.  I didn't expect Chooch to return this season  but am still reall glad to see him back.  He will probably be used sparingly but his bat off the bench can be really valuable late in games.  Welcome back Chooch!!

National Waffle Week
