Tyler Cloyd and Raul Valdes Claimed Off Waivers

Hi everybody,

Phillies pitchers Tyler Cloyd and Raul Valdes were placed on waivers by the Phillies.  They were then claimed off waivers yesterday.  Cloyd was claimed by the Cleveland Indians and Valdes was claimed by the Houston Astros.

Cliff Lee Scratched From Today's Start

Hi everybody,

If the news wasn't bad enough for the slumping Phillies, it was announced during last night's game against the Detroit Tigers that Cliff Lee was scratched from his scheduled start tonight with a stiff neck.  Raul Valdes will instead make the start.  Hopefully Cliff will only miss this one game.

Joe Savery Placed on the DL

Hi everybody,

Prior to last night's game against the St. Louis Cardinals, the Phillies placed left-handed relief pitcher Joe Savery on the DL (Disabled List) with stiffness in his left elbow.  To replace Savery on the roster, the Phils have recalled left-handed relief pitcher Raul Valdes from the Triple-A Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs.

Raul Valdes Likely Done For Season

Hi everybody,

Left-handed relief pitcher Raul Valdes has been placed on the DL and will have arthroscopic surgery on the meniscus in his right knee.  The surgery will probably end his season.  Valdes pitched well in the bullpen and I wish him a speedy recovery.

Phils have a nice comeback win to improve their record to 24-23.  This is the third win in a row and the first extra innings win on the road.  Unfortunately Cliff Lee still hasn't won a game this season although he pitched well enough to win.  Lee and Shane Victorino did have some heated words in the dugout after Victorino misplayed a fly ball in the bottom of the 4th inning.  I hope they have already patched things up.

Raul Valdes won his second game is as many nights in relief and Jonathan Papelbon saved his 14th game in fourteen attempts.  Hunter Pence also hit his 11th Home Run (a two run blast) in the top of the 10th inning.  Juan Pierre also got his 9th RBI of the season.  He would have gotten a second RBI but one of his hits that scored a run was called an error.  The Phils go for their fourth straight win tonight with Kyle Kendrick on the mound.  Go Phils!!!

Great win by the Phils!  It was a back and forth slug fest but they managed to beat the Cardinals 10-9.  Freddy Galvis continues to hit and field well.  Shane Victorino also is hitting better lately as he drove in three RBIs.  The Phils are once again at .500 and will have Cliff lee on the mound tonight.  It's time for Lee to get his 1st win of the season.  Go Phils!!!
