Alumni Weekend - Celebration of 2009 National League Championship Team

Hi everybody,

Alumni Weekend concluded earlier today with a pregame ceremony honoring the Phillies 2009 National League Championship team.  Almost all the members of the 2009 team were in attendance and Cole Hamels provided a video message to their teammates and the fans.  It was great to see the 2009 team again and it makes me want to watch some 2009 Phils baseball.

Jimmy Rollins Retirement Night

Hi everybody,

Former Phillies shortstop and icon Jimmy Rollins officially retired as a Phillie on Saturday (May 4th) and was honored before the game against the Washington Nationals.  The Phils gifted Rollins with a custom painted glove showing some of his career highlights as well as a cool tribute video.  Many former Phils players and coaches including Charlie Manuel and Shane Victorino were in attendance to celebrate an amazing career by JRoll.  Chase Utley and Ryan Howard also made video appearances to congratulate Jimmy on a great career.

I look forward to the day in a couple years when Jimmy get inducted onto the Phillies Wall of Fame.  I also hope that a Baseball Hall of Fame induction and retirement of his number 11 by the Phils also occurs. Congrats on an amazing career, JRoll!

The Phillies Won the World Series 10 Years Ago Today

Most of 2008 Team From Alumni Weekend
Hi everybody,

Just wanted to acknowledge the ten year anniversary of the Phillies 2008 World Series victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.  I remember that night like it was yesterday.  What a great time that was.  I hope we all get to enjoy another Phils World Series win in the coming seasons.

Alumni Weekend - Celebration of 2008 World Championship Team

Hi everybody,

Alumni Weekend concluded earlier today with a pregame ceremony honoring the 2008 World Championship Phillies team.  Almost all the members of the 2008 team were in attendance and many of those who could not attend (Chase Utley, Cole Hamels, Matt Stairs and Chris Coste) provided video messages to their teammates and the fans.  It was great to see the 2008 team again.  It makes me want to watch some 2008 Phils baseball.

Alumni Weekend - Shane Victorino Retires as a Phillie

Hi everybody,

Former Phillies center fielder Shane Victorino retired as a Phillie before Friday's (August 3rd) game against the Miami Marlins.  Victorino played for the Phils from 2005-2012 (when he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers).

Victorino (nicknamed the Flyin' Hawaiian) won three Gold Gloves and was a two-time NL All-Star as a member of the Phillies.  He also was part of five NL East Championship teams (2007-2011), two National League Championship teams (2008-2009) and the 2008 World Champions.  Victorino would later be a part of an American League Championship and World Series Championship with the Boston Red Sox in 2013.

Congrats on a great career, Shane!  I look forward to seeing you on the Phillies Wall of Fame someday.

Greeting the fans...

Thanking the Phillies and the fans...

Throwing out the first pitch with his son...

Thank you Shane....

Chase Utley Photo of the Week (11-16-16)

Hi everybody,

This week's photo Chase may be one that I used a long time ago but I decided to share it again because it shows a lot of old Phils with Chase during happier times in 2011.

Chase Utley Photo of the Week (8-17-16)

Hi everybody,

This week's photo is a shot of Chase talking to the newest Phillies Wall of Famer Jim Thome while Shane Victorino takes some batting practice swings.  I wonder what Chase and Big Jim were talking about.

Hunter Pence August Update

Let's Go Eat...
Hi everybody,

Welcome to the latest Hunter Pence update.  In case you want to catch up....here are the previous updates:

Hunter Pence July Update

Hunter Pence June Update

Hunter Pence May Update

Hunter Pence April Update

Here are Hunter's stats as of the end of the day on August 27th, 2013:

Batting Average = .278
RBIs = 66
Home Runs = 16
Runs Scored = 68
Walks = 36
Stolen Bases = 19
Strike Outs = 90

Pence's numbers have improved somewhat over the last month especially in RBIs and Runs Scored.  I continue to believe that Pence would have been an asset to the Phillies this season.  I don't think they would have made the playoffs but they certainly would have more wins.  Although I don't think they will, the Phils should try to sign Pence if/when he becomes a free agent at the end of the season.

I've decided to include two photos for the Hunter Pence Photo of the Month.  The first picture is right after Hunter scored a run.

The second is a pic from the second game that Pence was a member of the Phils.  It was against the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Phils has just come back and won the game.  Many of the players (past and present) are celebrating the win with Pence...including Chase, Raul Ibanez and Shane Victorino.  This was also the game where Pence uttered his catch phrase "Let's Go Eat!".  I must say that I miss those fun days in 2011.

Shane Victorino Honored By The Phillies

Good old days....
Hi everybody,

Last night in the middle of the 4th inning of the game between the Phillies and the Boston Red Sox, Shane Victorino was honored by the Phillies for his eight seasons with the franchise.  The Phils played a video tribute showing highlights of Victorino's career with the Fightins'.  At the conclusion of the tribute, Victorino (who is currently on the DL) emerged from the Boston dugout to tip his cap to the fans.  The fans responded with a standing ovation.

Victorino signed a three year deal with Boston in the off-season but he will always be a Phillie to me.  I look forward to the day when he is placed on the Phillies Wall of Fame.  Good luck, Shane!

Victorino will always be a Phillie to me......

Victorino and Pence Updates

Hi everybody,

I just thought I would share some pictures of Shane Victorino and Hunter Pence in their new uniforms...

Isn't that depressing?  I still like to think of both of them as Phils in better days....

Shane Victorino

Hi everybody,

The Phils traded Shane Victorino to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Josh Lindblom (relief pitcher) and Ethan Martin (minor league relief pitcher).  Victorino was going to be a free agent at the end of the season so I understand why the Phils traded him but it is still sad to see him go.  He was one of final Phils from the 2008 World Series team.  Good luck in LA, Shane...you will always be a Phillie to me.

Victorino's final stats as a Phillie this year are 46 Runs Scored, 40 RBIs, 9 Home Runs, 35 Walks and 24 Stolen Bases.

Atlanta Braves:                   6

I'm too depressed to comment about the game.

Game 100: Phillies (45-54) at Braves (54-44)

Hi everybody,

Here is the score of last night's game:

Philadelphia Phillies:         1
Atlanta Braves:                   6

LP:   Cole Hamels (11-5)

Shane Victorino gets an RBI (39)

Tough loss by the Phils.  They need to win tonight because if they don't, the Phils will more than likely trade some players before the trade deadline on Tuesday.

Game 95: Giants (52-41) at Phillies (41-53)

Hi everybody,

Here is the score of yesterday's game:**

San Francisco Giants:         6
Philadelphia Phillies:           5

** Extra Innings (Game ended in the 10th)

LP:  Jonathan Papelbon (2-4)

Chase Utley gets an RBI (8)
Ryan Howard gets three RBIs (5)
Cole Hamels gets an RBI (3)

Chase Utley gets a Home Run (3)
Ryan Howard gets a Home Run (3)
Cole Hamels gets a Home Run (1)

What a great game...until about the eighth inning.  Chase hit a home run his first at bat! Cole Hamels hit his first home run ever!!  Ryan Howard hit a three run home run!!!  Shane Victorino got his 1000th hit!! But they still couldn't win the game.  I was there so it made it even tougher to watch.
