Vincent Velasquez Returns from DL

Hi everybody,

Phillies starting pitcher Vincent Velasquez returned from the DL (Disabled List) in last night's (June 28th) game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.  Velasquez has been on the DL for the last three weeks with a strained right bicep...which he injured on June 8th in the 1st inning against the Chicago Cubs.  To make room on the roster for Velasquez, the Phils sent relief pitcher Elvis Araujo down to Triple A and moved former starting pitcher Adam Morgan to the bullpen.

Chase Utley Scores 1000th Run of His Career

Hi everybody,

Former Phillie (and my hero) Chase Utley scored the 1000th run of his career last night in the 1st inning of the Dodgers-Nationals game.  Chase scored 949 of those 1000 runs as a Phillie and is ranked number 6 on the Philles all-time franchise list for runs scored.  Congrats Chase for achieving another career milestone.

Gettysburg Photo of the Month (June 2016)

This month's photo is an older photo taken by friends when they visited Gettysburg way back in 2004.  The picture was taken in the Devil's Den and the monument is the 4th New York Battery.  This is one of my favorite monuments on the battlefield and I really like how it looks with the older style camera.

United States Army Birthday

Hi everybody,

I just wanted to wish the United States Army a Happy 241st Birthday.  The U.S. Army was founded on June 14th, 1775 by the Continental Congress to protect the Thirteen Colonies from the British.  The U.S. Army is even older than the country since the Thirteen Colonies did not declare their independence from Great Britain until July 4th, 1776.  To all the soldiers serving in the Army (and all other branches)....thank you for your service!

Tommy Joseph Named Phillies Starting First Baseman

Hi everybody,

The Phillies announced on Friday that Tommy Joseph will get the bulk of the playing time at first base over Ryan Howard.  This is the last year of Howard's contract with the Phils so it is not a surprise that he would start to receive less playing time.  The Big Piece has also struggled at the plate while Joseph has been on a tear since coming up from Triple A last month.  Hopefully Joseph will continue to hit well and Howard will be a threat as a pinch hitter.

Vincent Velasquez Placed on the DL

Hi everybody,

Phillies starting pitcher Vincent Velasquez was placed on the DL (Disabled List) with a strained right bicep.  Velasquez injured his arm in the 1st inning of Wednesday's game (June 8th) against the Chicago Cubs. Velasquez only threw two pitches and retired one batter before he was pulled from the game.  The injury is not thought to be serious so Velasquez will hopefully only miss a few starts. Zach Eflin has been called up from Triple A to take his spot in the rotation and will make his first start on Tuesday.
