Talkin' Phils with Little Chase (10-18-13)

Hi everybody,

Some Phillies news to report so let's get started:

Phillies Coaching News:

Juan Samuel and Wally Joyner will be returning to the Phils next season in their same roles.  Samuel will once again be the 1st Base Coach and Joyner will return as Assistant Hitting Coach.  It was reported that Joyner would not be returning but that was obviously not the case.

Roster Changes:

Four players were outrighted to Triple A yesterday.  The players are Casper Wells (Outfield), Roger Bernadina (Outfield), Cesar Jimenez (Left Handed Relief Pitcher) and J.C. Ramirez (Right Handed Relief Pitcher).  John Lannan was also offered an opportunity to go to Triple A but he declined the assignment and is now a free agent.

** Update:  Casper Wells, Roger Bernadina and J.C. Ramirez declined to go to Triple A and are now free agents.

Casper Wells Returns from the DL

Hi everybody,

Phillies outfielder Casper Wells was activated from the DL (Disabled List) before tonight's game against the Atlanta Braves.  Wells has been on the DL since August 26th with vision problems...which have been corrected with LASIK surgery.  Welcome back!

Casper Wells Placed on the DL

Hi everybody,

Phillies outfielder Casper Wells was placed on the DL (Disabled List) on Monday due to vision problems.  He has been replaced on the roster by Pete Orr. Hopefully Wells eyesight problems are not serious and he will return to the team before too long.

Carlos Ruiz = 2 (20)
Roger Bernadina = 1 (1)
Chase Utley = 1 (49)

Darin Ruf = 1 (11)

Runs Scored:

Carlos Ruiz = 2 (22)

Longest game (time wise) in Phillies history at seven hours and six minutes. The Phils used their entire bullpen as well as today's starter Tyler Cloyd. They were forced to use outfielder Casper Wells and position player John McDonald as pitchers in the 18th inning.  I'm tired.

Talkin' Phils with Little Chase (8-11-13)

Hi everybody,

I haven't done one of these in a very long time.  I have a few quick updates to report so here goes:

Roy Halladay:

Doc threw 75 pitches in a simulated game on Saturday in Clearwater, FL.  By all accounts, he looked good.  Halladay is scheduled to throw a bullpen session tomorrow and if it goes well, he will pitch a minor league rehab game on Thursday.  That means we could see Doc return to the big leagues by early September.  Yay!

Looking forward to seeing this again...

Laynce Nix & Demon Young:

Earlier this week, Laynce Nix & Delmon Young were designated for assignment to make room on the roster for the returning Domonic Brown and new Phillies outfielder Casper Wells.  Here are the final 2013 stats for Nix and Young:

Laynce Nix:

Batting Average = .180
RBIs = 7
Home Runs = 2
Runs Scored = 11
Walks = 8
Stolen Bases = 1
Strike Outs = 44

Delmon Young:

Batting Average = .261
RBIs = 31
Home Runs = 8
Runs Scored = 22
Walks = 14
Stolen Bases = 0
Strike Outs = 69

I wish Nix and Young all the best.  I really don't know much about Casper Wells but I do hope he isn't annoying like another Casper that I know.
