Jake Diekman Traded to the Texas Rangers

Hi everybody,

Even though the trade to the Texas Rangers was discussed in length in the previous post (Cole Hamels Traded to the Texas Rangers)...I also wanted to wish Jake Diekman well with his new team.  Good luck, Diek!

Cole Hamels Traded to the Texas Rangers

Hi everybody,

Phillies Ace starting pitcher Cole Hamels, relief pitcher Jake Diekman and $9.5 million have been traded to the Texas Rangers for five prospects and one MLB ready starting pitcher (Matt Harrison).  The prospects traded for Hamels & Diekman are:

1) Right-handed pitcher Jake Thompson
2) Right-handed pitcher Jerad Eickhoff
3) Right-handed pitcher Alec Asher
4) Outfielder Nick Williams
5) Catcher Jorge Alfaro

With Hamels departure...there are only three Phillies left from the 2008 World Series Championship Team (Utley, Howard & Ruiz).  I understand that the trade had to be done but it is still sad.  Hamels leaves the Phillies as a three time National League All-Star and the MVP of both the 2008 National League Championship Series and World Series.  He also pitched a No-Hitter in his final Phillies start as well as being part of a Combined No-Hitter last season with Diekman, Ken Giles & Jonathan Papelbon.

Good luck in Texas Cole!  You will always be a Phillie to me!

Congrats to Carlos Ruiz for Tying MLB Mark for Catching No-Hitters

Hi everybody,

I also wanted to congratulate Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz for also making history during Cole Hamels No-Hitter against the Chicago Cubs yesterday (July 25th) by catching his fourth No-Hitter.  This achievement ties the MLB record of four (also held by former Boston Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek) as well as becoming the National League record holder.

Ruiz has caught both of Roy Halliday's No-Hitters in 2010 as well as the combined No-Hitter (Cole Hamels, Jake Diekman, Ken Giles & Jonathan Papelbon) last September.  Congrats again to Chooch for his historic achievement.
