Phillies and Mariners Agree To Five-Player Trade

Hi everybody,

The Phillies and Mariners completed a trade earlier today that sent Phils infielders Carlos Santana and J.P. Crawford to Seattle in exchange for shortstop Jean Segura and relief pitchers Juan Nicasio and James Pazos.  Segura is the centerpiece of the deal for the Phils and is expected to be the starting shortstop for the 2019 Season.  Good luck in Seattle Carlos Santana and J.P. Crawford.  Welcome to Philly Jean Segura, Juan Nicasio and James Pazos.

Howie Kendrick Placed on the DL

Hi everybody,

Phillies outfielder and second baseman Howie Kendrick was placed on the DL (Disabled List) with a left hamstring injury yesterday (June 30th).  Kendrick has been dealing with the injury since last week and has only been used sparingly as a pinch hitter and as the DH (Designated Hitter) in Tuesday's (June 27th) game against the Seattle Mariners.

This is Kendrick's second stint on the DL this season.  He missed about six weeks with a right abdominal strain (Kendrick 1st DL Stint 2017 Season) in April and May but is not expected to be out as long this time.

The Phillies have brought up outfielder Nick Williams from Triple A to replace Kendrick on the roster.  Williams was one of the centerpieces in the Cole Hamels trade to the Texas Rangers in 2015 (Cole Hamels Traded to Rangers) and is hoped to be a big part of the Phils future plans.

Carlos Ruiz Returns to Philadelphia as a Mariner

Hi everybody,

As I wrote a couple days ago (Phils to Face Carlos Ruiz For the First Time Since Being Traded)....Carlos Ruiz returned to Philly with the Seattle Mariners for a two-games series on Tuesday and Wednesday (May 9-10).  During the game on Tuesday the Phils aired a video tribute to Chooch on the giant videotron.  An emotional Ruiz tipped his cap to the cheering Phillies fans after the video.

When Chooch batted for the first time later that night, he received another standing ovation from the fans.

You can watch the standing ovation here: http://www.csnphilly.com/video/phillies-fans-welcome-back-carlos-ruiz-standing-ovation

It was good to see you again Chooch!   No matter what uniform you wear...you will always be a Phillie!

Phils to Face Carlos Ruiz For the First Time Since Being Traded

Hi everybody,

The Phils will see former catcher Carlos Ruiz for the first time since he was traded as the Seattle Mariners come to Philly for a two game series tonight and tomorrow.  The Phils traded Chooch to the Dodgers last August and the Dodgers subsequently traded him to the Mariners in November.  I hope Ruiz does well in both games but the Phils still get the wins.  In any event...it will be good to see Chooch tonight!

I'll always prefer this look for Chooch...
