Former Phils Skipper Jim Fregosi Passed Away

Hi everybody,

I have some sad news to report.  Former Phillies manager Jim Fregosi passed away earlier today after suffering multiple strokes earlier this week.  Fregosi managed the Phillies from 1991-1996.  His most memorable season as skipper of the Phils was in 1993 when he led the team to a National League Championship and the World Series.  Rest in Peace, Mr. Fregosi.

Phillies Sign Starting Pitcher A.J. Burnett

Hi everybody,

The Phillies signed veteran starting pitcher A.J. Burnett on Wednesday to a one-year contract worth $16 million dollars. Burnett, who previously pitched for the Pittsburgh Pirates, is expected to be the 3rd starter after Cole Hamels and Cliff Lee.  Welcome to the Phils, A.J. Burnett!

Chase Utley Photo of the Week (2-12-14)

Hi everybody,

I've got a great picture of Chase in his Reading Fightin Phils uniform from when he was rehabbing last year.  I like the uniform, but I hope we don't have to see him in it again this year!

Congrats to Jamie Moyer and Matt Stairs

Hi everybody,

Just wanted to congratulate Matt Stairs and Jamie Moyer for their new positions as members of the Phillies TV Broadcast Team.  The former 2008 World Series Champs will be in the booth this season with Tom McCarthy.  They will each work at least 100 games and will be a three-man team with McCarthy for more than 30 games.  Stairs and Moyer replace long time broadcaster Chris "Wheels" Wheeler and Gary Matthews.  Both Wheeler and Matthews will be doing other work for the Phillies.

Roy Oswalt is Retiring

Hi everybody,

Former Phillies starting pitcher Roy Oswalt announced his retirement yesterday.  Oswalt had a 13-year career that spanned four teams.  He played for 9+ seasons with the Houston Astros before being traded to the Phillies in July of 2010.  He remained with the Phils until the end of the 2011 season and was a part of the Four Aces along with Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee and Cole Hamels.  He spent his final two seasons with the Texas Rangers (2012) and Colorado Rockies (2013).

One of my favorite memories of Oswalt was an extra innings game in late 2010.  Due to a lack of players left available, Oswalt was forced to play left field in the top of the 15th inning. He received loud cheers and even caught a ball hit out to him.  He seemed to be enjoying himself out there as evidenced by the picture above.  Good luck in the future Roy Oswalt....I enjoyed watching you pitch in Philly!
