2021 Phillies Alumni Weekend

Hi everybody,

It was Alumni Weekend down at the ballpark this past weekend and the Phillies had three separate events to honors members of the organization.

On Friday night former Phillies President the late David Montgomery was recognized after he was posthumously awarded the Buck O'Neil Lifetime Achievement Award during the National Baseball Hall of Fame Ceremonies last month.

On Saturday night former second baseman Manny Trillo was inducted into the Phillies Wall of Fame.  The member of the 1980 World Champions was supposed to be inducted last year but Alumni Weekend was cancelled due to the coronavirus.

On Sunday afternoon former pitcher, Wall of Fame and Hall of Fame member the late Roy Halladay had his number retired by the Phillies in a ceremony where his former teammate Raul Ibanez spoke.  A Number 34 Monument was also unveiled on the Third Base Plaza by Doc's former catcher Carlos Ruiz.

I tip my cap and raise my glass to all the Phillies legends.

Cole Hamels Pitched First Game At Citizens Bank Park Since Being Traded

Classy move...

Hi everybody,

Former Phillies starting pitcher Cole Hamels pitched in Citizens Bank Park last Wednesday (August 14th) for the first time since being traded to the Texas Rangers in July 2015.  Although Hamels (now pitching for the Chicago Cubs) had a rough outing he was treated with a standing ovation by the Philly fans.

In an extremely classy move, Hamels also wore the Phils commemorative patch honoring the late David Montgomery...who passed away on May 8th. When asked about potentially being fined for wearing it, Hamels said that Montgomery had meant a lot to him and his family and didn't care if he was fined.

Hamels is a free agent at the end of this season and I hope the Phils sign him as a free agent in the offseason.  Would love to see him finish his career as a Phillie.

David Montgomery Celebration of Life Service Announced

Hi everybody,

The Phillies announced last Friday (May 10th) that a special service celebrating the life of the late Phillies Chairman David Montgomery will be held at Citizens Bank Park on Thursday, June 6th at 3:05 PM.  The event will be open to the public.

The Phils also paid tribute to Montgomery before last night's (May 13th) game against the Milwaukee Brewers with a video tribute and moment of silence.  The players will also be wearing a patch on their arms honoring Montgomery for the rest of the 2019 season.

David Montgomery Has Passed Away

Hi everybody,

Sad news to report today as Phillies Chairman David Montgomery has passed away at the age of 72.  Mr. Montgomery has been a member of the Phillies organization since 1971 and was an integral part in the construction of Citizens Bank Park.  Mr. Montgomery was known for his kindness to others and was beloved by both current and former players.  R.I.P. Mr. Montgomery.
