Phils Having Ceremony To Honor Ryan Howard On Sunday

Hi everybody,

Phils first baseman Ryan Howard is being honored in a pre-game ceremony before the last game of the season this Sunday (October 2nd)...which will likely be Howard's last game as a member of the Phillies.

Howard has played for the Phillies for his entire career and was one of the cornerstones of the 2007-2011 run of five straight NL East division titles, two National League championships (2008-2009) and the World Series title (2008).  Phils skipper Pete Mackanin says that he plans the play the Big Piece in all three of the remaining games of the season.

Ryan Howard Receives Roberto Clemente Award

Hi everybody,

Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard was honored before Wednesday night's (September 21st) game against the Chicago White Sox when he received his trophy for being the Phillies 2016 nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award.  The Roberto Clemente Award is given to the winner during the World Series and is presented to the player who best represents the game of baseball both on the field with sportsmanship and off the field with charitable work.

The Big Piece was named the nominee in early September (Ryan Howard Named Phillies 2016 Nominee for Roberto Clemente Award) and is the second straight year that Howard has been named the Phillies nominee.  You can help the Big Man win by tweeting #VoteHoward.  Congrats again, Big Piece!

Tyler Goeddel Likely Done for the Season

Hi everybody,

Phillies outfielder Tyler Goeddel was injured in Wednesday night's (September 21st) game against the Chicago White Sox.  Phillies skipper Pete Mackanin announced yesterday that Goeddel sustained a concussion when he was hit by a pitch in his helmet while batting in the sixth inning.  With only nine games remaining in the season...it is unlikely that Goeddel will play again this year.

Phils Eliminated From Post-Season Play

Sigh...

Hi everybody,

Just wanted to let you know that the Phils were officially eliminated from post-season play last night.  This will mark the fifth straight season of not reaching the playoffs after making it five years in a row (with 5-straight NL East Titles) from 2007-2011. Even though we assumed since the beginning of the season that this was going to happen, it still stinks.

I miss seeing the Phils in the playoffs....

Charleston Photo of the Month (September 2016)

Hi everybody,

Welcome to the newest feature of my blog....the Charleston Photo of the Month.  Since I've been to Charleston two times and my friends have been there four times, we have a lot of beautiful pictures of Charleston and the Lowcountry to share.  So I decided to add this new feature to the blog.  I hope you all enjoy seeing our pictures every month.

This month's picture is a shot of St. Michael's Episcopal Church in the Historical District.  The picture was taken last Thursday afternoon.  St. Michael's is just one of many Churches in Charleston and is why Charleston is known as the Holy City.

Back from my Charleston Vacation

Andres Blanco Returns from the DL

Phillies utility infielder Andres Blanco was activated from the DL (Disabled List) before the Phils game on Friday (September 2nd) against the Atlanta Braves.  Blanco has been on the DL since July 24th (Andres Blanco Placed on DL) with a broken left index finger.  Welcome back, Blanco!

Vincent Velasquez Done for the Season

Hi everybody,

Phillies starting pitcher Vincent Velasquez season has come to an end after pitching on Saturday (September 3rd) against the Atlanta Braves.  Velasquez isn't injured but the Phils have decided to shut him down so he will be ready for next season.  Velasquez ends the 2016 season with a 4.12 ERA (Earned Run Average)...starting 24 games and throwing 131 innings.  He also struck out 152 batters this season with an 8-6 record.  Alec Asher is expected to take Velasquez's place in the rotation for the rest of the season.
