Chase Utley Photo of the Week (8-26-15)

Hi everybody,

It has been about a week since my hero Chase Utley was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers.  I've been asked by some of my friends if I was planning to continue to do the Photo of the Week and if so, if pictures of Chase in the Dodger uniform would be used.  The answer to the first part of the question is yes, the Photo of the Week will continue.  As to the second part of the question...only pics of Chase during his time as a Phillie will be used for PotW.  I do plan to have a Chase Dodgers update soon where I will post pics of my hero as a Dodger (sigh).

In the meantime...enjoy this week's photo.  It was taken during much happier times.

Chase Utley Thanks Philadelphia

Hi everybody,

My hero and former Phillie Chase Utley bought a full-page ad in the Inquirer and Daily News thanking Philadelphia.  Here is what Chase had to say:

Thank you Philadelphia for taking me under your wing 12 years ago. It has been an honor and a dream come true to play for a city with so much passion. I feel extremely lucky to have played for an organization with so many incredible people.
Thank you David Montgomery for having the gift to make everyone around you feel important. I am proud to have been a part of your vision for the organization. I’ve played for several impactful coaches over the years, but Charlie Manuel stands alone for what he has meant to me. His patience, encouragement and faith in his team created a sense of confidence that his players will never forget. Most importantly, I would like to say thank you to my teammates, old and new. I will forever cherish the times that we had. Pat, Row, j-dub, Jroll, Howy, Vic, Chooch, Cole to name a few– Thank you for your countless hours of preparation and determination. I am honored to have shared the field with you.
Jen and I have worked with the Pennsylvania SPCA for over 10 years and we will continue to support their work for years to come. Thank you to everyone who has joined us to positively change the lives of the abused and neglected animals of Philadelphia.
Citizens Bank Park is like no other stadium. The support, encouragement and energy that all of you brought on a daily basis was empowering. We have had quite a ride together and I will never forget 2008. WFC forever!
Thanks again Philly, I will miss you.
Chase Utley

Thank you, Chase!  We're all gonna miss you too!  I'm rooting for you and Jimmy in LA!

Another Big TV Break

Hi everybody,

Even though I am still down in the dumps after the Chase trade...I did get some good news this evening as my photo was chosen by the Phillies for the T-Mobile Data Strong Fan of the Game (#PhillyPhotoDataStrongFan if you are on Twitter).  This is the second year in a row that I have been the Fan of the Game (My Big TV Break).

I'm famous?!

I just want to thank the Phillies (@Phillies), T-Mobile, Tom McCarthy (@TMacPhils) and my Twitter pal Gregg Murphy (@GmurphCSN) from the Phils broadcasting crew for cheering a sad guy up for a little while.

A Blog Update

Hi everybody,

With Chase being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers (Utley Traded to Dodgers)...I don't know what the future holds for me.  Without Chase I never would have existed.  I feel like a man without a purpose.  Am I obsolete?  A relic?  I don't know.  I have a lot to think about.

In the meantime...I will continue to post game scores and other Phils updates because I don't want to leave you all hanging during the remainder of the 2015 season.  We will see what happens after the season ends.  It may be time for me and the blog to retire.

Chase Utley Traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers

Hi everybody,

It is a sad time for me and the rest of the Phillies fans.  My hero Chase Utley has be traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers late last night for two Minor League prospects (Outfielder/Infielder Darnell Sweeney and Right-Handed Pitcher John Richy). Chase will be going to a Dodger team that is in serious contention for a post-season berth as well as reuniting with Jimmy Rollins.

Chase and Jimmy are together again

Here are Chase's final stats for the 2015 season (73 games played):

Batting Average:   .217 (54 for 249)
OPS:   .284
RBIs:   30
Runs Scored:   23
Home Runs:   5
Singles:   36
Doubles:   12
Triples:   1
Stolen Bases:   3
Walks:   22
Strike Outs:   35

I want to thank Chase for everything he has done here in Philly.  I wish him the best of luck in LA.  He will always be a Phillie to me as well as my hero.

I wish this had actually happened

Maikel Franco Placed on the DL and Likely Done for the Season

Hi everybody,

Phillies third baseman Maikel Franco was placed on the 15-day DL (Disabled List) yesterday (August 18th) with a fractured left wrist. Franco was injured on August 12th in Arizona when he was hit by a pitch while at bat.  He hasn't played in a game since.

The injury is more than likely season ending...which is a shame since Franco was in the running for NL Rookie of the Year.  Here are Franco's presumed final stats for the 2015 season (77 games played):

Batting Average:   .277 (82 for 296)
OPS:   .830
RBIs:   48
Runs Scored:   43
Home Runs:   13
Singles:   46
Doubles:   22
Triples:   1
Stolen Bases:   1
Walks:   25
Strike Outs:   50

Cesar Hernandez is expected to get the majority of playing time at 3rd base for the remainder of the season while my hero Chase Utley will resume his starting role at 2nd base.

Triple A outfielder Aaron Altherr has been brought up from Lehigh Valley to take Franco's place on the Phils roster.  I wish Franco a speedy recovery.

Jimmy Rollins Returns to Philly in First Game as a Dodger

Hi everybody,

Former Phils shortstop Jimmy Rollins played in his first game in Citizens Bank Park last night (August 4th) as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers.  He received a standing ovation from the fans in attendance before his first at bat.   In turn...Rollins tipped his helmet twice to the cheering crowd.  I'll never get used to seeing Jimmy is any uniform other than the Phils pinstripes but it was good to see him.  Welcome back to Philly, J-Roll!
