Jake Diekman Traded to the Texas Rangers

Hi everybody,

Even though the trade to the Texas Rangers was discussed in length in the previous post (Cole Hamels Traded to the Texas Rangers)...I also wanted to wish Jake Diekman well with his new team.  Good luck, Diek!

Cole Hamels Traded to the Texas Rangers

Hi everybody,

Phillies Ace starting pitcher Cole Hamels, relief pitcher Jake Diekman and $9.5 million have been traded to the Texas Rangers for five prospects and one MLB ready starting pitcher (Matt Harrison).  The prospects traded for Hamels & Diekman are:

1) Right-handed pitcher Jake Thompson
2) Right-handed pitcher Jerad Eickhoff
3) Right-handed pitcher Alec Asher
4) Outfielder Nick Williams
5) Catcher Jorge Alfaro

With Hamels departure...there are only three Phillies left from the 2008 World Series Championship Team (Utley, Howard & Ruiz).  I understand that the trade had to be done but it is still sad.  Hamels leaves the Phillies as a three time National League All-Star and the MVP of both the 2008 National League Championship Series and World Series.  He also pitched a No-Hitter in his final Phillies start as well as being part of a Combined No-Hitter last season with Diekman, Ken Giles & Jonathan Papelbon.

Good luck in Texas Cole!  You will always be a Phillie to me!

Gettysburg Photo of the Month (July 2015)

Hi everybody,

This month's photo is a picture of the monument to Union Major General John Reynolds.  This monument is located in the National Cemetery and has been featured in a previous Photo of the Month/Week (POTW 10-18-13). Unlike the previous photo...this picture is taken from a different angle.  I hope you all enjoy it.

Chase Utley Photo of the Week (7-29-15)

Hi everybody,

With the Trade Deadline upon us I decided to use a photo I found online earlier this week of Chase, Ryan Howard, Cole Hamels and Jonathan Papelbon.  They are on a plane on the way to Chicago and it was taken days before Hamels No-Hitter and Papelbon's trade to the Washington Nationals.  I start to wonder if anyone else in this pic will be former Phillies by the end of the week.

Jonathan Papelbon Traded to the Washington Nationals

Hi everybody,

Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon was traded to the Washington Nationals last night for Double A right-handed pitcher Nick Pivetta.  The Phils also agreed to pay the remainder of Papelbon's 2015 salary of around $4.5 million.

Papelbon ends his Phillies career as the All-Time Saves Leader with 123 saves.  He also had a 14-11 win-loss record with a 2.31 ERA in 234 appearances.  Paps also made the National League All-Star team in 2012 and 2015.

I wish Papelbon the best of luck with the Nationals.

Cajun Night

Hi everybody,

As Cole Hamels pitched his historic No-Hitter last night...my friends and I had a Cajun night so we could enjoy some good food and music and remember our trip to New Orleans last September.  After putting on our beads, we had some Jambalaya with chicken, sausage and shrimp.  It was great.

I think I could eat the whole pot of it....

Then for dessert we had some Chocolate Bread Pudding.

So good....

We then relaxed while listening to some Zydeco music and reflected on our New Orleans trip.  As the party got swinging....I couldn't help but dance to the music.

Congrats to Carlos Ruiz for Tying MLB Mark for Catching No-Hitters

Hi everybody,

I also wanted to congratulate Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz for also making history during Cole Hamels No-Hitter against the Chicago Cubs yesterday (July 25th) by catching his fourth No-Hitter.  This achievement ties the MLB record of four (also held by former Boston Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek) as well as becoming the National League record holder.

Ruiz has caught both of Roy Halliday's No-Hitters in 2010 as well as the combined No-Hitter (Cole Hamels, Jake Diekman, Ken Giles & Jonathan Papelbon) last September.  Congrats again to Chooch for his historic achievement.

Congrats to Cole Hamels for Pitching a No-Hitter

Hi everybody,

I just wanted to congratulate Phillies starting pitcher Cole Hamels for throwing a 129 pitch No-Hitter against the Chicago Cubs yesterday (July 25th).  Hamels looked amazing in perhaps his final start ever in a Phillies uniform...if he is moved by the July 31st Trade Deadline.  Cole said that this was the second greatest moment of his career after winning the World Series in 2008.

Here are Hamels pitching stats for the No-Hitter:

Innings Pitched:   9
Hits:   0
Runs:   0
Errors:   0
Walks:   2
Strike Outs:   13
Home Runs:   0

Congrats again, Hollywood!
