Game 52: Phillies (26-25) at Mets (28-22)

Hi everybody,

Here is the score of tonight's game:

Philadelphia Phillies:         10
New York Mets:                   6

WP:   Antonio Bastardo (2-1)

Jimmy Rollins gets three RBIs (11)
Shane Victorino gets three RBIs (27)
Carlos Ruiz gets two RBIs (31)
Ty Wigginton gets two RBIs (24)

Jimmy Rollins gets a Home Run (2)
Ty Wigginton gets a Home Run (5)
Carlos Ruiz gets a Home Run (8)

Great come from behind win for the Phils to end the road trip with a 5-2 record.  The Phils also gained a game in the NL East standings and are now only 3 games out of first place.  Jimmy Rollins had a huge game with three hits, three RBIs and a Home Run.  Carlos Ruiz also came through with a pinch hit Home Run to tie the game in the top of the 7th.  Shane Victorino and Ty Wigginton also got some key hits and RBIs.  Unfortunately Cliff Lee once again did not get the win even though he pitched well enough to earn it.  The Phils enjoy an day off before a weekend series at home against the Miami Marlins.  Go Phils!!!

Chase Utley Photo of the Week (5-30-12)

Hi everybody,

Time for another great Chase picture.  In this one he's standing in the dugout but ready to go which is what I'm hoping to see soon.  I can't wait until he goes to Clearwater so he can start playing again.  It's been way too long!!

Game 51: Phillies (26-24) at Mets (27-22)

Hi everybody,

Here is the score of tonight's game:

Philadelphia Phillies:         3
New York Mets:                  6

LP:   Joe Blanton (4-5)

Brian Schneider gets an RBI (5)

Brian Schneider gets a Home Run (2)

Tough loss for the Phils.  Joe Blanton pitched his third straight bad game. With Roy Halladay out of action for 6-8 weeks, Blanton and the other starting pitchers need to play better and pickup the slack.  As for tonight's game, Brian Schneider got the Phils only RBI with his second Home Run of the season.  The other two runs were due to a wild pitch and fielding error.  Cliff Lee goes for the series win and his first win of the season tomorrow night. Go Phils!!!

Game 50: Phillies (25-24) at Mets (27-21)

Hi everybody,

Here is the score of today's game:

Philadelphia Phillies:         8
New York Mets:                  4

WP:   Cole Hamels (8-1)

Ty Wigginton gets six RBIs (22)
John Mayberry Jr. gets two RBIs (11)

Ty Wigginton gets a Home Run (4)
John Mayberry Jr. gets a Home Run (2)

Good win by the Phils!  It was a fun game to watch.  Cole Hamels won his eighth straight game.  Ty Wigginton was the big hero with a career high six RBIs and his fourth Home Run of the season.  John Mayberry Jr. also hit his second Home Run of the year.  The Phils will go for their second straight win tomorrow night against the Mets with Joe Blanton on the mound.  Hopefully we'll also have some good news about Roy Halladay and Carlos Ruiz.  Go Phils!!!

Game 49: Phillies (25-23) at Cardinals (25-22)

Hi everybody,

Here is the score of yesterday's game:

Philadelphia Phillies:          3
St. Louis Cardinals:             8

LP:   Roy Halladay (4-5)

Juan Pierre gets two RBIs (11)
Shane Victorino gets an RBI (24)

Sorry about the late updates this weekend.  The Phils lost the final game of the four game series against the Cardinals but the big story is Roy Halladay leaving the game with a sore shoulder.  He is going to have it looked at tomorrow and hopefully it isn't bad.  The last thing the Phils need is another injury.  Let's just hope he isn't out too long.  Cole Hamels pitches today against the New York Mets.  Let's get another winning streak going.  Go Phils!!!

A Fun Commercial

Hi everybody,

Just wanted to share a fun commercial that I have been seeing on TV during Phillies games.  It is for Bacardi Rum and I love the retro look and music from it.  I am not advocating drinking (I prefer root beer) but it is a fun commercial:

The video isn't the best quality but it will do.  Enjoy!!!

Game 48: Phillies (24-23) at Cardinals (25-21)

Hi everybody,

Here is the score of last night's game:

Philadelphia Phillies:          4
St. Louis Cardinals:            0

WP:   Kyle Kendrick (1-4)

Shane Victorino gets an RBI (23)
John Mayberry Jr. gets two RBIs (9)
Freddy Galvis gets an RBI (23)

Another great win by the Phils last night.  Kyle Kendrick pitched a complete game shut-out to get the win.  It was the best game that I ever saw Kendrick pitch.  The Phils go for the four game sweep of the Cardinals this afternoon with Roy Halladay on the mound.  Go Phils!!!

Game 47: Phillies (23-23) at Cardinals (25-20)

Hi everybody,

Here is the score of last night's game:**

Philadelphia Phillies:          5
St. Louis Cardinals:            3

** Extra Innings (Game ended in the 10th)

WP:   Raul Valdes (2-0)
SV:    Jonathan Papelbon (14)

Juan Pierre gets an RBI (9)
Jimmy Rollins gets an RBI (8)
Hunter Pence gets two RBIs (30)

Hunter Pence gets a Home Run (11)

Phils have a nice comeback win to improve their record to 24-23.  This is the third win in a row and the first extra innings win on the road.  Unfortunately Cliff Lee still hasn't won a game this season although he pitched well enough to win.  Lee and Shane Victorino did have some heated words in the dugout after Victorino misplayed a fly ball in the bottom of the 4th inning.  I hope they have already patched things up.

Raul Valdes won his second game is as many nights in relief and Jonathan Papelbon saved his 14th game in fourteen attempts.  Hunter Pence also hit his 11th Home Run (a two run blast) in the top of the 10th inning.  Juan Pierre also got his 9th RBI of the season.  He would have gotten a second RBI but one of his hits that scored a run was called an error.  The Phils go for their fourth straight win tonight with Kyle Kendrick on the mound.  Go Phils!!!

Game 46: Phillies (22-23) at Cardinals (25-19)

Hi everybody,

Here is the score of last night's game:

Philadelphia Phillies:         10
St. Louis Cardinals:             9

WP:   Raul Valdes (1-0)
SV:    Jonathan Papelbon (13)

Shane Victorino gets three RBIs (22)
Freddy Galvis gets three RBIs (22)
Ty Wigginton gets two RBIs (16)
Placido Polanco gets an RBI (9)
Mike Fontenot gets an RBI (2)

Ty Wigginton gets a Home Run (3)

Great win by the Phils!  It was a back and forth slug fest but they managed to beat the Cardinals 10-9.  Freddy Galvis continues to hit and field well.  Shane Victorino also is hitting better lately as he drove in three RBIs.  The Phils are once again at .500 and will have Cliff lee on the mound tonight.  It's time for Lee to get his 1st win of the season.  Go Phils!!!

Game 45: Nationals (26-17) at Phillies (21-23)

Hi everybody,

Here is the score of tonight's game:

Washington Nationals:      1
Philadelphia Phillies:         4

WP:   Cole Hamels (7-1)

Shane Victorino gets two RBIs (19)
Mike Fontenot gets an RBI (1)
Juan Pierre gets an RBI (8)

Shane Victorino gets a Home Run (6)

The Phils end their four game winning streak with an impressive win by Cole Hamels.  Hamels is now 7-1 and really needs to be re-signed for several more years.  As bad as the Phils have been playing, they are still only 4.5 games out of first.  Let's hope they can continue winning in St. Louis tomorrow night.  Go Phils!!!

Hi everybody,

Here is the score of tonight's game:

Washington Nationals:      2
Philadelphia Phillies:        1

LP:   Kyle Kendrick (0-4)

Ty Wigginton gets an RBI (14)

Another frustrating loss by the Phils.  Once again the Phils are unable to score runs after getting multiple opportunities.  Kyle Kendrick pitched well enough to win this game.  The bullpen also pitched well for two scoreless innings.  The six game win streak seems so long ago and now the Phils are half way to a six game losing streak.  Let's hope Roy Halladay can get the Phils back on the winning track tomorrow.

Game 42: Red Sox (19-21) at Phillies (21-20)

Hi everybody,

Here is the score of today's game:

Boston Red Sox:              5
Philadelphia Phillies:       1

LP:   Cliff Lee (0-2)

Juan Pierre gets an RBI (7)

The Phils were never really in this game as they lose the series to the Red Sox.  Cliff Lee falls to 0-2 and once again fails to get any run support.  I still cannot believe that Lee has yet to win a game this season.  "Natitude" comes to town tomorrow for a three game series so hopefully the Phils can start another winning streak against the Nationals.

Game 41: Red Sox (18-21) at Phillies (21-19)

Hi everybody,

Here is the score of last night's game:

Boston Red Sox:              7
Philadelphia Phillies:       5

LP:   Joe Blanton (4-4)

Jimmy Rollins gets an RBI (7)
Shane Victorino gets an RBI (17)
Hector Luna gets an RBI (5)
Freddy Galvis gets two RBIs (19)

Freddy Galvis gets a Home Run (3)

The Phils win streak ends at six games as they lost to the Red Sox 7-5.  The Phils were able to get runners on base with 15 hits but could not turn those hits into runs.  Freddy Galvis did hit his 3rd Home Run of the season and his second in as many days.  The rest of the teams in the NL East also lost so the Phils remain four games out of 1st place.  Cliff Lee pitches later today as the Phils go for the series win.  Go Phils!!!

Game 40: Red Sox (18-20) at Phillies (20-19)

Hi everybody,

Here is the score of last night's game:

Boston Red Sox:              4
Philadelphia Phillies:       6

WP:   Cole Hamels (6-1)
SV:    Jonathan Papelbon (12)

Carlos Ruiz gets two RBIs (29)
Hunter Pence gets an RBI (28)
Freddy Galvis gets an RBI (17)
Ty Wigginton gets an RBI (13)
John Mayberry Jr. gets an RBI (7)

Hunter Pence gets a Home Run (10)
Freddy Galvis gets a Home Run (2)

Sorry that I did not post this last night.  The Phils win their six straight game to improve their record to 21-19.  Cole Hamels won his 6th game of the season and Carlos Ruiz continues to impress at the plate as he got two more RBIs.  Hunter Pence and Freddy Galvis also hit Home Runs.  Jonathan Papelbon got his 12th save at the expense of his former team.  Joe Blanton is on the mound tonight as the Phils go for seven straight wins.  Go Phils!!!

Game 39: Phillies (19-19) at Cubs (15-22)

Hi everybody,

Here is the score of tonight's game:

Philadelphia Phillies:    8
Chicago Cubs:               7

WP:   Roy Halladay (4-3)
SV:    Jonathan Papelbon (11)

Carlos Ruiz gets three RBIs (27)
Hunter Pence gets two RBIs (27)
Shane Victorino gets an RBI (16)

The Phils win their fifth straight and are now one game over .500 at 20-19. Roy Halladay pitched well and got his first win in a month.  The Phils were actually ahead 8-3 in the bottom of the 9th but Jake Diekman got roughed up for four runs before Jonathan Papelbon came in for the final out.  Carlos Ruiz continues to scorch the ball with four hits and three RBIs.  Hunter Pence also had a couple of hits and two RBIs.  The Phils now head back home for the first Interleague series against the Boston Red Sox.  Go Phils!!!

Game 38: Phillies (18-19) at Cubs (15-21)

Hi everybody,

Here is the score of tonight's game:

Philadelphia Phillies:    9
Chicago Cubs:               2

WP:   Jose Contreras (1-0)

Freddy Galvis gets an RBI (16)
Shane Victorino gets an RBI (15)
Carlos Ruiz gets an RBI (24)
Ty Wigginton gets two RBIs (12)
Hector Luna gets four RBIs (4)

Carlos Ruiz gets a Home Run (7)
Hector Luna gets a Home Run (1)*

* Grand Slam

Great win by the Phils as they improve their record to 19-19 and win their 4th game in a row.  Kyle Kendrick pitched well in a spot start for Vance Worley (he's on the DL) but did not figure in the decision.  The bullpen held the Cubs to no runs for three innings and Jose Contreras got his first win.  The Phils offense took the lead in the 8th with a Carlos Ruiz Home Run (his 7th of the season) and scored six runs in the top of the 9th to take a commanding 9-3 lead.  Hector Luna (in his first at bat as a Phillie) hit a Grand Slam Home Run. The Phils go for the series sweep against the Cubs tomorrow and their 5th win in a row.  Go Phils!!!

Game 37: Astros (15-20) at Phillies (17-19)

Hi everybody,

Here is the score of today's game:**

Houston Astros:               3
Philadelphia Phillies:       4

** Extra Innings (Game ended in the 10th)

WP:   Jake Diekman (1-0)

Brian Schneider gets two RBIs (4)
Hunter Pence gets two RBIs (25)

Brian Schneider gets a Home Run (1)
Hunter Pence gets two Home Runs (9)

The Phils win their first extra innings game of the season as well as their first three game winning streak.  Cliff Lee pitched great for eight innings but Chad Qualls coughed up the lead in the 9th...with a little bit of help from a botched throw attempt by Hunter Pence.  Pence would redeem himself in the 10th inning with a game winning Home Run....his second of the day and ninth this season.  Jake Diekman also made his Phillies debut and got the win by getting the last four Astros he faced out.  He looked very impressive.  Brian Schneider also hit well and got his first Home Run of the season.  The Phils are now off to Chicago to play a short two game series against the Cubs before returning to Philly this weekend.  Let's hope they continue to extend the winning streak.  Go Phils!!!

Game 36: Astros (15-19) at Phillies (16-19)

Hi everybody,

Philadelphia Phillies:       5

WP:   Joe Blanton (4-3)

Carlos Ruis gets an RBI (23)
Freddy Galvis gets two RBIs (15)
Placido Polanco gets two RBIs (8)

Placido Polanco gets a Home Run (1)

The Phils win their second straight game during a rainy evening at the ballpark.  Joe Blanton had another solid outing and he improved his record to 4-3.  Congrats to Placido Polanco as he got his 2,000th Major League hit off of a two run Home Run in the bottom of the 8th.  The Phils go for both the two game sweep of the Astros tomorrow afternoon and their first three game winning streak of the season.  Go Phils!!!

SV:    Jonathan Papelbon (10)

Jimmy Rollins gets an RBI (6)
Brian Schneider gets an RBI (2)
Juan Pierre gets an RBI (6)

Jimmy Rollins gets a Home Run (1)

Nice series win for the Phils on Mother's Day.  Jimmy Rollins hit his first Home Run of the season and Cole Hamels continues to pitch amazing as he improved his record to 5-1.  Jonathan Papelbon also got his tenth save of the season.  The Phils will be playing the Astros tomorrow evening so lets hope they can start a winning streak.  Go Phils!!!

San Diego Padres:           2
Philadelphia Phillies:       1

LP:   Roy Halladay (3-3)

Game 33: Padres (11-21) at Phillies (14-18)

Hi everybody,

Here is the score of tonight's game:

San Diego Padres:           3
Philadelphia Phillies:       7

WP:   Vance Worley (3-2)

Carlos Ruiz gets three RBIs (22)
John Mayberry Jr. gets three RBIs (6)
Freddy Galvis gets an RBI (12)

Carlos Ruiz gets a Home Run (6)
John Mayberry Jr. gets a Home Run (1)

The Phils put together a nice win after their horrible series against the Mets. Maybe Charlie Manuels' little talk with the team on Wednesday night helped clear some heads.  Carlos Ruiz and John Mayberry Jr. each hit a Home Run and got three RBIs.  Mayberry seems like he is coming out of the slump he's been in all season.  He has been hitting the ball well for the last few days. The bullpen also pitched a lot better as they pretty much shut down the Padres for the final three innings.  Let's hope they can keep it up tomorrow! Go Phils!!!

Game 32: Mets (17-13) at Phillies (14-17)

Hi everybody,

Here is the score of tonight's game:

New York Mets:                10
Philadelphia Phillies:         6

LP:   Kyle Kendrick (0-3)

Freddy Galvis gets three RBIs (11)
Cliff Lee gets an RBI (1)
Laynce Nix gets an RBI (11)
Hunter Pence gets an RBI (23)

Same story...different day.  Cliff Lee pitches well in his return and leaves the game (he was on a pitch count) with a 4-2 lead after six innings.  The bullpen then proceeds to give up eight runs in three innings.  This bullpen is terrible. The Phils are just lucky that the Nationals lost their last two games or they would be in even worse shape.  At least they won't lose tomorrow because it's an off day.

LP:   Chad Qualls (1-1)

Hunter Pence gets two RBIs (22)
Shane Victorino gets an RBI (14)
Pete Orr gets an RBI (5)

Hunter Pence gets a Home Run (7)

Once again the Phils blow a lead and waste another quality outing by one of their starting pitchers....tonight being Joe Blanton.  It is so upsetting because they are so much better than they are playing.  I don't know how else to express my frustration other than to show you how I feel right now:

Game 30: Mets (15-13) at Phillies (14-15)

Hi everybody,

New York Mets:                5
Philadelphia Phillies:       2

LP:   Jonathan Papelbon (0-1)

John Mayberry Jr. gets an RBI (3)
Placido Polanco gets an RBI (6)

The Phils blow another lead to lose again.  Roy Halladay pitched well but got no run support other than the two runs scored in the first two innings.  Not a good start to the home stand as the Mets scored three runs in the ninth inning to break the 2-2 tie and win the game.  I keep waiting for the Phils to come out of this five week funk.  I really want to start seeing a winning streak longer than two games.  Maybe they can start one tomorrow.

Game 29: Phillies (13-15) at Nationals (18-9)

Hi everybody,

Here is the score of tonight's game:

Hunter Pence gets four RBIs (20)
Juan Pierre gets an RBI (5)
Shane Victorino gets an RBI (13)
Placido Polanco gets an RBI (5)
Freddy Galvis gets two RBIs (8)

Hunter Pence gets two Home Runs (6)

Great win by the Phils to end this series on a positive note.  The offense exploded tonight for nine runs.  Hunter Pence hit two Home Runs and had four RBIs.  Cole Hamels also pitched really well for his fourth win of the season.  The Phils now head home for an eight game home stand against the Mets, Padres and Astros.  It will be nice to see the Phils back in Citizens Bank Park!  Go Phils!!!

Gettysburg Ghosts

Hi everybody,

It's been a couple of weeks since I got back from Gettysburg.  I have really taken an interest in all the ghostly happenings in and around Gettysburg. Before I left town I picked up some ghost books.  They are the Ghosts of Gettysburg series written by Mark Nesbitt and they are really interesting.

My friends bought me the Union Kepi hat

There are seven books to date in the series and I recommend them all. Check out Mr. Nesbitt's website if you want to learn more:

http://www.ghostsofgettysburg.com/

I mentioned before that my friends and I heard cannon fire while we were on the battlefield but there was no one around that could have done it.  I was talking with my friends from Michigan about what happened and they relayed a strange tale of their own.

When they were visiting Gettysburg three years ago, they went out to the Peace Light Memorial around dusk and took this picture (click to enlarge):

Ghost at the Gettysburg Peace Light Memorial

Can you see the figure walking up to the Peace Light?  My friends didn't!!! They proceeded to make their way to the Memorial and spent nearly an hour there.  They never saw anyone else around the entire time they were there and didn't even notice the figure in the picture until after they returned from their trip.

Since it may be hard to see it...I lightened the picture and zoomed in toward the figure to make him more clear:

Zoom of Ghost at the Gettysburg Peace Light Memorial

It looks like the figure is wearing a slouch hat, an overcoat and carrying a satchel bag.  Could he be some sort of courier...transmitting orders to officers during battle?  I'm not sure.  All I know is that I am looking forward to returning to Gettysburg to ghost hunt in the near future and one of my stops will be the Peace Light Memorial.

Hi everybody,

Here is the score of today's game:

Philadelphia Phillies:        1
Washington Nationals:      7

LP:   Vance Worley (2-2)

Carlos Ruiz gets an RBI (19)

There's two and a half hours I'll never see again.  There's really nothing else to say except that Carlos Ruiz got another RBI...that's his 19th of the season. Hopefully the Phils will show up tomorrow night to play!  Sorry that I am being snarky but I don't like the Nats and watching the Phils can be so frustrating sometimes.  I still love them but I really miss Chase and Ryan Howard.

Game 27: Phillies (13-13) at Nationals (16-9)

Hi everybody,
I'm sad 'cause the Phils got hosed!

Here is the score of last night's game:**

Philadelphia Phillies:        3
Washington Nationals:      4

** Extra Innings (Game ended in the 11th)

LP:   Michael Schwimer (0-1)

Hunter Pence gets two RBIs (16)
Carlos Ruiz gets an RBI (18)

Hunter Pence gets a Home Run (4)
Carlos Ruiz gets a Home Run (5)

Sorry that I didn't post this last night after the game but I was a bit under the weather so I went to bed as soon as the game ended.  This was a disappointing loss but mainly because the Phils got cheated by the Umpires multiple times.  These mistakes by the Umps cost the Phils one run and the 4-3 victory they should have had.  In any case, the Phils have still not won a game in extra innings (0-4) and once again failed to get above .500.  Hunter Pence and Carlos Ruiz each hit Home Runs and Chooch continues to hit really well.  The Phils try to even the series this afternoon.  I better go watch today's game!  Go Phils!!!

Game 26: Phillies (12-13) at Braves (15-10)

Hi everybody,

Here is the score of today's game:

Philadelphia Phillies:     4
Atlanta Braves:               0

WP:   Joe Blanton (3-3)

Hunter Pence gets an RBI (14)
Laynce Nix gets an RBI (10)
Shane Victorino gets two RBIs (12)

Laynce Nix gets a Home Run (2)
Shane Victorino gets a Home Run (5)

Great win for the Phils today.  I was worried that this could be a let down game after last night's roller coaster ride but Joe Blanton pitched amazing. He threw a complete game shutout....which was his first as a Phillie.  Shane Victorino hit his 5th Home Run of the season (a two-run shot) and Laynce Nix hit his 2nd.  The Phils take 2 out of 3 against the Braves and now head to Citizens Bank Park South....I mean Washington to face the Nationals.  Go Phils!!!

Game 25: Phillies (12-12) at Braves (14-10)

Hi everybody,

Here is the score of tonight's game:**

Philadelphia Phillies:     13
Atlanta Braves:               15

** Extra Innings (Game ended in the 11th)

LP:   Brian Sanches (0-1)

Carlos Ruiz gets seven RBIs (17)
Shane Victorino gets two RBIs (10)
Laynce Nix gets three RBIs (9)
Freddy Galvis gets an RBI (6)

Carlos Ruiz gets a Home Run (4)

Very tough loss tonight.  The Phillies offense showed up and scored 13 runs but unfortunately the Braves scored 15.  The Phils blew a 6-0 lead and a 12-8 lead to lose their 13th game of the season.  The Phils are also now 0-3 in extra inning games.  Carlos Ruiz did have an amazing game at the plate. Chooch hit a three run Home Run and two doubles for seven total RBIs.  The Phils play early tomorrow....hope they can put the loss behind then and still win this series.

Chase Utley Photo of the Week (5-2-12)

Hi everybody,

It's great that Ryan Howard is back in Clearwater doing baseball activities and hopefully Chase will be doing the same soon.  That's why I chose this picture.

I'd love to see them both playing in some minor league games!
